The Manchester United Boss has stated that arguably the two best players will have a massive part in aiding their respective side’s to win the FIFA World Cup 2018.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have always been the two most complete players in football for the last decade or so winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or five times each. However, the duo has never won the World Cup ever since competing for the tournament back in 2006.
Messi came close to lifting the trophy with Argentina back in 2014 but lost to Germany in the final after Mario Gotze’s extra-time goal handed defeat to the Barcelona superstar. Ronaldo, on the other hand, tasted continental success when he lifted the Euro 2016 with Portugal but the Real Madrid star is keen on adding the World Cup to his illustrious trophies that he has won in his career.
Ronaldo came closest to the World Cup back in 2006 but Portugal was then knocked out by a French side led by the 33-year-old’s current coach Zinedine Zidane. However, Jose Mourinho feels that this World Cup should have a lot of serious contenders with the quality players oozing out of the European continent.
Mourinho Predicts The World Cup-
Speaking to ESPN Brazil, the 55-year-old Portuguese manager hinted at his native with Ronaldo possibly lifting the World Cup but also included Lionel Messi in the same bracket, “Portugal has an interesting squad. Without Cristiano, it would be impossible. But with him nothing is impossible. I believe that the Argentinian national team without Lionel Messi wouldn’t be a contender. But with him, it is one of the favorites.”
But Mourinho finally added that he predicts Spain as the favorites heading into the grandest tournament of them all as he is ready to be entertained in Russia, “We have the traditional teams of Europe, but I believe Spain is once again a real team. They were able to get together players with the same game philosophy, adapted to that playing style. I would say that Spain is in better condition than any other European rivals. But let’s see. It is going to be entertaining to me, I’ll be in Russia for a week to follow the games and then finally vacation.”
Have to agree with Mourinho because, without their respective talisman, each country cannot win the World Cup. But Spain has plenty of options and look formidable on paper as well as on the pitch which makes them favorites to lift the FIFA World Cup 2018.
