Tottenham Hotspur doesn’t want to hang back and is ready to grab the opportunity to sign Christian Erikson from Inter Milan before the transfer window ends. The news has been reported from Italy after the former Tottenham player failed to create magic for Antonio Conte’s squad and aims for another chance with another club.
It has been the silent transfer window so far as the English clubs are struggling as the financial impact of Coronavirus rumbles on. Clubs are asked to make the loan deals with a buy-back option added in the contract. The Lily whites are linked with a move for a host of names to the club. But Erikson appears to be on the top of the list.
The Danish midfielder is disappointed with the game time at the Italian outfit and is seen struggling to take his place in Inter Milan. Since making a move to Inter Milan. Eriksen’s struggle came into light by Inter Milan who is reportedly keen on cutting his deal in January.
The midfielder joined the Italian side from Tottenham Hotspur last January for a £16.9m fee after he runs down his contract to six months. The move was made with the belief the Eriksen would make a big impact under Antonio Conte. But the opposite happens eventually. The Dutch midfielder could only get more than nine league appearances in this campaign.
The midfielder not only failed to adapt to the playing style of Antonio Conte but also failed to score goals for Inter Milan as he used to score at Tottenham Hotspur. Eriksen has only scored four goals in all his 40 appearances for the club. Thus it makes sense that the midfielder wants to play more games and is keen to make a move in January itself.
Mourinho wants Christian Erikson to return
Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claims that Mourinho ‘would accept’ Eriksen on a loan deal till the end of the season. As the loan move would be a no brainer because there are no other suitable suitors available for Christian Eriksen. Moreover, the playmaker is ready to make a return to the Premier League following an unsuccessful season.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the only slight concern about bringing back Erikson is wages of around €7.5 million per season with Inter Milan. The number is after including taxes and that could be a sole issue in signing him back on a loan. His wages could become the stumbling block for Tottenham who is already facing a lot of financial restrictions over transfers.
Moreover, the concern would be the same on the other side because Italy has been impacted by the coronavirus crisis. Thus Inter would also find ways to end paying some of his wages if he leaves on loan. Thereby offloading the weight of wages for the coming months.
Inter chief executive Beppe Marotta revealed the news of a move while talking to Sky Sports prior to Christmas. Beppe gives affirmations that Erikson is set to leave the club in January. He needs to find more Space as the midfielder doesn’t fit their plans and it would be right if he makes a move.
With the news of Christian Erikson waiting for a move to Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur would have to make a place to employ the midfielder into the squad. Moreover, Jose Mourinho would like to add him to the squad if Dele Alli decides to move on.
The loan move would be in favor of both parties because Erikson would return to his former club where he has played for several years. The move would give him a return to his comfort zone where he may regain the confidence and the sharpness of his midfield capability.
Jose Mourinho would be glad to add more creativity into the midfield. The Erikson move would open transfer gates for Dele Alli. The England international has fallen down the pecking order at Lily whites and wants to push himself away for a move to somewhere else.
