Josh Hazlewood was the star of the show for Australia during the first ODI against England in Manchester. The pacer kept the opposition batsmen in check more often than not.
Hazlewood provided an early breakthrough for the team when he dismissed Jason Roy for just 3 runs. In the second ball of the fourth over, Hazlewood removed England opener in the run-chase.
Jason Roy’s performances against Ireland were disappointing as he scored 24, 0, and 1 against Ireland. Roy continued his dismal form again in the first ODI after he fell prey to Josh Hazlewood’s bowling.

Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood dismantled England’s batting attack with such ease. The pacer channelized his aggression in the right manner and gave much-needed breakthroughs for the team.
The fast bowler was the man of the match for his best bowling figures. Hazlewood picked three wickets during the game. In his 10-over bowling spell, the pacer conceded only 26 runs.
Jason Roy, Joe Root, and Moeen Ali were all dismissed by Josh Hazlewood’s bowling tactics. Aussie spinner Adam Zampa picked four wickets but he turned out to be expensive in his ten-over spell. He conceded 55 runs.
Among Josh Hazlewood’s three wickets, Jason Roy’s wicket was the highlight because the bowler pulled off special effort. Hazlewood took a one-handed stunner off his own bowling to dismiss Jason Roy.

Australia are a win away from sealing the ODI series
Australia made a remarkable comeback in the ODI series especially after 2-1 T20I series defeat to England. The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. They are just one win away from sealing the series.
Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, and Josh Hazlewood were the top performers for Australia. Maxwell and Marsh chipped in with 77 and 73 respectively. Maxwell’s innings included 4 fours, 4 sixes.
Marsh scored 6 fours to his name. Both Maxwell and Marsh helped Australia post 294/9 in their 50 overs. In reply, England lacked enough ammunition to dictate tempo throughout the game.
Despite Sam Billings’ 118 and Jonny Bairstow’s gritty 84, the hosts failed to achieve the target. Australia won the match by 19 runs. With two more games in hand, hosts still have a chance to turn things around.
The second ODI between England and Australia will be played at The Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on September 13, Sunday.
