Jules Kounde news: Guardiola thought the French defender would fit the way he played
Kounde revealed when he was in his first season at Sevilla, the Man City manager called him to express his love for him. The French centre-back also added that Guardiola found him fit to play the style the Spanish tactician wanted to play.
“In my first year at Sevilla, he [Guardiola] called me. He told me that he loved me and that he thought I would fit the way he played.”
Kounde also heaped praise on Guardiola and Barcelona manager Xavi, noting they came across as very aware of his capabilities in talks with him.
Kounde added: “I talked a lot about football with both of them [Xavi and Guardiola]. And that’s what I like. The first thing, in the conversations I had with them, I realised that they had both seen me play. They knew my capabilities perfectly. They didn’t talk just to talk. They were very precise conversations.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona signed Kounde from Sevilla in a deal worth up to €60 million. Kounde has signed a five-year contract with the Catalan outfit.
Kounde made his debut for Barcelona when they faced Real Valladolid in La Liga. He has so far made three appearances for the Spanish side. He has also provided three assists in those three matches.
Meanwhile, Barcelona is on an unbeaten run after their 0-0 draw to Rayo Vallecano in the season opener. Barca have since played five games – four in La Liga and one in Champions League – and have won all those.
Barcelona sits second in the La Liga points table, only behind arch-rivals Real Madrid. Barca have 13 points from their first five-fixture, while Real Madrid is two points clear at the top.
