Jurgen Klopp gives green light as Liverpool look to secure surprise deal for Barcelona first-team player

Barcelona are open to selling Ousmane Dembele in the January transfer window.

Dembele has been linked with a move to Anfield throughout the January transfer window. The Frenchman has contended with injury problems during his time at Camp Nou since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2017. Dembele, even when fully fit, has failed to live up to expectations at the Nou Camp. The 22-year-old has played just nine games for the Catalan giants this season, scoring only one goal.

The Frenchman is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and will out till mid-February. Barcelona are open to selling but will demand a fee in the region of £85 m for the winger. The Catalan giants believe they can use the money to fund the signing of Neymar from PSG next summer. The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou last summer but the move never happened.

Dembele earlier sparked speculations of a potential Liverpool move when he liked a picture of himself wearing a Liverpool shirt. The 22-year-old has come under fire time and again for his lack of professionalism. The Frenchman missed training sessions and medical check-ups citing criticism from various fronts. His latest actions have further angered Barcelona chiefs who have been looking to offload him anyway.

Jurgen Klopp is considering a move for the £85 m rated winger.

Liverpool broke the record for the best start to a season by any team in the top five European leagues after their 1-0 win over Tottenham on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp, however, is in no mood to rest on his laurels despite adding Minamino to the ranks this January. The German is reportedly considering a big-money move for the £85 m rated Dembele to add more attacking flair to the team.

Klopp is currently content with the state of his squad but believes there is room for improvement. Klopp feels Dembele can offer something different to his current attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane. The Liverpool boss has given light to the transfer, according to Spanish media outlet El Desmarque. Dembele has made 74 appearances for Barca across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and registering 17 assists.

Liverpool currently stands to win the Premier League with the squad they have. The Reds have already signed Takumi Minamino this January, spending just £7.25 m on the highly-rated Japanese international. It is quite unlikely that the Reds will spend such a hefty amount on another player. Dembele, however, is destined to leave Barcelona sooner or later and only time will tell where he ends up.
