Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that though his team are challengers for the Premier League title, they can surely be more than that and he knows how.
The Kop boss is still keen on winning his first title with the Merseyside outfit, after coming close on quite a few occasions already. However, his team has already lost three cup finals and though were really dominant in the top flight of English football last term, failed to win it.
With that being said, Klopp wants more from his side who are now once again looking as one of the best teams in England, after a really good transfer window. They have signed some solid reinforcements to fill the voids within their squad already and can really go on to win a lot this term if the team can work as a unit and deliver.
The Reds started off their new campaign with an emphatic 4-0 win over West Ham in their first fixture of the league on Sunday and the German manager had this to say about his team, “We have expectations as well, so that is already enough to feel completely different before a Premier League game compared to before all the pre-season games.”
“Wherever they are, whether it’s Man United in front of 100,000, it feels different to a Premier League game against West Ham, that’s how it is. You cannot create that situation, that’s what I mean when I said you cannot test the test before you have the test.”
“It was good, we know about our expectations and we obviously realized a very positive atmosphere around us in the whole pre-season, that’s all. It’s good that the people are positive, but the people know as well that this season will be unbelievably hard.”
“That’s the only thing that I wanted to say: we cannot be anything different from the challenger because we didn’t win anything since I am in anyway, [and] it’s a long time ago. So we have to invest more, we have to fight more, we have to create more. That’s what we expect from ourselves and then we will see where it leads to.”
This will be a really positive message for the team from their manager now, who have done exceptionally well in the recent terms though have still not been able to win a title yet.
There is no doubt that the former Borussia Dortmund manager will be eyeing silverware this season and if his players can keep performing as they have once again shown against the Hammers, they would surely be a force to reckon with. They were quite close to winning the Champions League last season and ended up losing in the final to Real Madrid, though some would say they were rather unlucky.
Klopp took over at Liverpool in 2015 and has still not won a single title, with the English side. Though he has brought about a revolution at the club, it is obviously titles that matter in the end, in order to create a legacy. Due to this, the manager will now be focused on winning more trophies and leaving his mark at the club. If he fails to win anything this term as well, the club’s management and the fans might start to lose patience with him in the long-run and that will surely not be good news for his future at Anfield.
