The German manager has insisted that the Reds will be fighting for the title at the end of this season. That is the situation as the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has backed the Merseysiders to win trophies in the nearest future. Meanwhile, Liverpool played out a 0-0 draw in the Premier League with eternal rivals, Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday.
The game failed to live up to the pre-match hype due to the defensive tactics of opposition manager Jose Mourinho. But, the point means Liverpool sit eighth in the table, nine points behind leaders Manchester City.
LIVERPOOL ARE IN TITLE CONTENTION?
While the Mancunians are contenders for the Premier League title this season, Liverpool are probably fighting for a top-four spot.
However, Klopp insists his men will be up there challenging come the business end of the season.
“We have to do whatever is necessary and we will be challengers. We will be challengers for the next few years, no problem,” said the German after Saturday’s clash.
“We showed big heart, we were brave. I thought we were smart in doing the right thing at the right moment but in the end, it didn’t work out.
“I am not overly-positive, I am not crazy but I really see we are still good, and that is what I try to push.
“People around the stadium today saw a game they wanted to see — but they all had Liverpool shirts on.”
CRITICISM OF HIS SIDE THIS YEAR UNWARRANTED
The former Borussia Dortmund boss says criticism of his side this year is unwarranted.
“If we don’t score five times it is not good enough if we concede even one goal we have a bad defence – That is how it is in our city,” he continued.
“For me today, one team who can become champion this year was in our stadium and is not a world apart from us.
“It’s not that we are playing on different planets and they are really good and we do not find the entrance to the stadium.”
KLOPP: ‘I COULDN’T USE MAN UTD TACTICS’
German bass told worried Reds fans they must start seeing the positive from a team that forced United to radically change their system, in an attempt to negate Liverpool’s threat.
“I think United came here for the point and they got it. We wanted three points and didn’t get it.

The barren draw has also left Klopp’s men with only one victory in their last eight outings across every competition. With this kind of run of form from the Reds, the German boss is truly in great pressure. However, Liverpool had more clear chances and this has now given Klopp the belief that their performance against United will make them even improve more this season.
Liverpool travel to Tottenham Hotspur for their next league outing, but first, comes a Champions League tie against Slovenian side Maribor in midweek. And,they would be hoping to regain their goalscoring form to truly come back in the title race.
