The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced the 15 man Indian squad for the upcoming home series against Australia starting from February 24. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play 2 T20Is and 5 ODIs against the defending champions. The two match T20I series will kick off with the first T20I on Sunday, February 24 in Visakhapatnam while the one dayers get underway on Saturday, March 2 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli will return to lead the side for the entire limited overs leg after being rested for the last couple of ODIs and three T20Is against New Zealand. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has also made a return to the side after being rested following India’s historic 2-1 win in the test series Down Under.
Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant and opener KL Rahul have also been recalled into the squad after missing out on the limited over fixtures against both Australia and New Zealand held previously this year. Bhubaneshwar Kumar has been rested for both the T20Is as well as the first couple of ODIs after having played all the limited over matches against Australia and New Zealand.
Siddharth Kaul, who made his debut against England last year, has staked his claim back into the national side for the two T20Is and the first couple of ODIs. Umesh Yadav, who was dropped for the limited overs leg of the tours of Australia and New Zealand, has also been named in the T20I squad while legspinner Mayank Markhande has received his maiden call up to the national side for the 2 T20Is.
All rounder Vijay Shankar retains his place in the squad for the entire limited overs leg following his impressive show in New Zealand. Dinesh Karthik has been rested for the five match ODI series while Khaleel Ahmed, Shubhman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj have been left out for the entire limited overs leg against Aaron Finch’s men.
