ICC test rankings are out, and here is where our favorite Indian cricketers stand.
Indian cricket team finished its tour to Australia outstandingly with a 2-1 series win in ODIs. The men in blue stood up to full expectations of the nation as they proved themselves in all the departments. As the ICC test rankings are out, India maintains its number one spot among teams due to the historic test series win, whereas Kohli continues to be the World no.1 batsman.
India is at the top with 922 points, with a hike of 116 points followed by the Australia tour. South Africa, on the other hand, is a ranked second with 110 points. And as far as individual players are considered, Virat Kohli dominates the number one spot, while New Zealand captain Kane Williamson stands at number two with 897 points. Also, India’s Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant have jumped up the ladder, where Pujara stands at number three and Pant has entered the top 20 list and with a career best of 17th rank.
Apart from Indian batsmen, Bowlers have outshined others as well at the ICC rankings, where Jasprit Bumrah who was a crucial player in India’s historic series win, has risen to a number 15 spot with 711 points, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are amongst the top 10 – at fifth and ninth places respectively.
In bowlers’ rankings, Jasprit Bumrah – who played a major role in India’s series win, climbed to 15th spot with 711 points. The list is still topped by South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja being India’s two bowlers in top 10 – at fifth and ninth places respectively.
Hence, if West Indies wants to come up at the third spot in the rankings, they would have to win the upcoming three-match series against England. If England won the series with a clean sweep, it will take them to 109 points behind South Africa and India. In other series starting from Thursday, Australia will take on Sri Lanka. Both teams will remain at fifth and sixth positions irrespective of the result.
While the men in blue heads over for the tour to New Zealand, India will be seen taking over the Kiwis in a limited-overs series comprising five ODIs and three T20Is. The first match will be played at McLean Park in Napier on January 23.
Following the maiden series win in Australia, Virat Kohli maintains his number one spot, Cheteshwar Pujara third in Test batsman whereas pacer Jasprit Bumrah moves to 15th position. For Jasprit Bumrah it’s still a long way to go as In the bowler’s list Kagiso Rabada still topped the chart while Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are the best-ranked Indians at fifth and ninth place respectively.
