According to the reports in Italy, Juventus director Beppe Marotta has released a statement about their veteran defender.
In the last couple of weeks, there has been news about Patrice Evra returning to Manchester United in this January transfer window. The 35-year-old left-back is said to be enjoying his last few days in Italy with Juventus.
In an interview with Sky Italia, Juventus club director Beppe Marotta confirmed that Evra is currently considering his future. He also said that the club will find a replacement if Evra decides to leave.
“Evra was not called up to the squad because he’s thinking about his future,” Marotta told Sky Italia. “If he leaves, we will not sign a replacement.”
“It’s only right he’s taking a moment to reflect, as his contract will expire in June, he is 35 going towards 36. We’ll see next week.”
Marotta also said, “I don’t think we need to find a replacement, as we have internal options like Kwadwo Asamoah and Federico Mattiello.”
“It’s not certain he will leave Juventus. We’ll see what happens over the next few days.”
Career at Juventus
Since moving from Manchester United to Juventus, Evra has played over 75 matches for the Italian side and also won back-to-back Serie A titles. In his third season with the club, Evra seems to have difficulties for first team action.
The former Manchester United captain has been pecking down the order at Juventus since the start of this season. Brazilian defender Alex Sandro has emerged as the first choice left-back for Massimiliano Allegri’s side.
The French international is now being linked with a move back to Old Trafford this month. At Manchester United, there are already a few left-backs in the likes of Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo. But if Evra decides to move to Man United, then his experience would surely be beneficial to 21-year-old, Luke Shaw.
In his successful eight-year spell with Manchester United, Evra has won 15 trophies, including five Premier League titles and one Champions League.
Recently, Manchester Evening News reported that Evra has decided to return to Old Trafford and will also be a part of Jose Mourinho’s coaching team. It is understood that Evra wants to return to Manchester United and retire at Old Trafford. But there has been no further confirmations regarding this news.
In addition to Manchester United, the veteran defender is also linked with a move to Spanish side Valencia.
