Manchester United shocked Juventus at the Allianz stadium as they came from behind to hand Juventus their first defeat this season
Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Juventus on the 65th minute via a sumptuous volley. Juventus then squandered three to four golden chances to increase the lead and it came back to haunt them. Manchester United equalized via a brilliant freekick from substitute Juan Mata in the 86th minute and then a scrappy own goal three minutes later from left back Alex Sandro saw the Red Devils pick up all three points in Italy.
Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini admitted that Juventus were the superior team and deserved to win by at least three goals. “I don’t remember having suffered similar comebacks at home,” Chiellini told RMC Sport. “Made in the last three minutes. We deserved to win by at least three goals, we had clarity and were better in both phases of the game. We were always the best on the field, in possession and out of it. In the Champions League details make the difference, even if it there are things that can also be said about games in Serie A.
We had to close the game out, and we didn’t manage it. A few games have gone like this, against Empoli and Genoa we were burned a little. And against Cagliari. It might be a healthy defeat, which could lead us to a lot of trophies in June. Be we know the road is long, and nobody will hand us anything. In fact, everyone who plays against us, has to put in that bit extra in order to try and stop us.”
It is true that Juventus were the better team on the night and certainly did not deserve to lose. But fair play to United, they kept on working hard and pushing and were finally rewarded in the form of 3 points.
