Kylian Mbappe News: La Liga President Aims Swipe at PSG Star’s Transfer Decision

Kylian Mbappe news: La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed that the French superstar stayed in a league that is not competitive.

Mbappe was heavily linked with a move away from PSG ahead of the 22/23 season, with Real Madrid interested in his services. His contract with PSG then was set to expire at the end of June 30.

He was widely expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer. But Mbappe decided to snub Real Madrid and sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe extended his stay on the French side by putting pen to paper on a three-year contract. His current contract with PSG runs until 2025.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has now aimed a swipe at Mbappe for staying with PSG.

“’If we look at the clubs where they are, we see that these are clubs that are pouring money,” Tebas said when asked if La Liga was lacking superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi & Mbappe.

He added: “Of course, we would have liked them to come, but they weren’t there last year either.

“Mbappe stayed in a championship that is not competitive.”

La Liga has seen Messi and Ronaldo leave the league in the last five years. Ronaldo left Real Madrid in the summer of 2018, swapping the Spanish side for Juventus. Ronaldo currently plays for Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Messi left Barcelona in the summer of 2021 after the expiry of his contract with the Catalan outfit. Messi wanted to stay at Barcelona, but it could not happen “because of financial and structural obstacles”. Messi joined PSG in that summer and has been playing for them ever since.

Mbappe then scored a goal in PSG’s 3-0 win over Toulouse and bagged a brace when PSG defeated Nantes by the same margin.

He also propelled PSG to three points in their Champions League 22/23 opener, scoring two goals as they beat Juventus 2-1.
