LaLiga 2021-22 Matchday 12 Review: Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Sevilla get wins as the pressure starts to build up on Real Sociedad.
FC Barcelona dropped points again in this gameweek. New caretaker manager Sergi Barjuan could only guide the Blaugrana to a point against Deportivo Alaves.
Elsewhere, league leaders Real Sociedad were also only able to draw against Athletic Bilbao. La Real now only have a slender one-point lead at the top of the points table.
Cadiz, Levante, and Getafe occupy the bottom three spots of the LaLiga points table. Getafe finally got their first win of the season and would hope that this boosts them out of the relegation spot.

Elche 1-2 Real Madrid
Real Madrid and Elche kicked off the first game of the match week. Elche had not won against Los Blancos in recent years and had their work cut out from the start.
A Vinicius Junior brace ensured that Real Madrid got all three points, as Milla could only score a consolation for Elche. The game ended 1-2, in favor of Real Madrid.
Sevilla 2-0 Osasuna
Sevilla had to make sure that their title charge didn’t fall flat as they welcomed Osasuna. Sevilla dominated both the possession stats and the shots on target throughout the game.
Goals from Carlos and Ocampos on either side of halftime ensured that the Seville team walked away with all three points. The game ended 2-0 in favor of Sevilla.
Valencia 2-0 Villarreal
Valencia welcomed Villarreal in a key mid-table battle. The possession stats and the total number of shots were dominated by the yellow submarine, who had a stronghold on the game.
But, Valencia played on the counter and scored through Guillamon in the 43rd minute. And then rubbed salt in the Villarreal wounds by adding a second in the 77th minute, courtesy of a Soler Penalty. The game ended 2-0 in favor of Valencia.
Barcelona 1-1 Deportivo Alavés
Barcelona welcomed Deportivo Alaves to the Camp Nou, hoping to stage a comeback into the LaLiga title picture. The game was balanced and the first half ended goalless.
In the second-half, goals from Depay and Rioja canceled each other out. The talking point of the match was that Sergio Aguero was taken out of the game due to a cardiovascular issue and was later hospitalized for the same. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Cadiz 1-1 Mallorca
Cadiz welcomed Mallorca as they hoped to get out of the relegation spots. But Baba had other plans and gave a first-half lead to Mallorca.
Cadiz did equalize late in the second half after Alvaro Negredo converted a penalty in the 90+3′ minute to salvage a point. The game ended in a 1-1 draw between the sides.
Atletico Madrid 3-0 Real Betis
The Rojiblancos had to reply after both Real Madrid and Sevilla won their games early on. Wanda Metropolitano stadium was witness to a dominant Atletico performance.
Goals from Carrasco, Pezzella, and Félix ensured that Atletico Madrid won 3-0 against Real Betis.
Getafe 2-1 Espanyol
Getafe welcomed Espanyol hoping to get their first win of their season. The Madrid-based team started the game strongly and took the lead in the 31st minute. But they were pegged back by a Gomez goal before halftime.
In the second half, Ünal added a second to ensure that Getafe got their first victory of the season.
Real Sociedad 1-1 Athletic Club
This was one of the most balanced games on paper, as Real Sociedad welcomed one of the biggest clubs in LaLiga. Sociedad, who wanted to remain at the top of the table, scored first through Isak in the second half.
La Real thought that they had won the match, but a Muniain goal in the 90+1’st minute ensured that the points were shared. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Celta Vigo
But teams were wasteful of their chances and played out a goalless draw in a cagey match.
Levante 0-3 Granada
Levante welcomed Granada hoping to get the required 3-points to get out of the relegation zone. But their performance was not up to the mark.
Granada dominated the contest and goals from Sanchez, Suarez, and Puertas confirmed the 3-points for Granda. The game ended with the scoreline of Levante 0-3 Granada.
