LaLiga 2021-22 Matchday 11 review: LaLiga’s midweek round brought in changes all around the points table. The biggest talking point was the sacking of Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman after the loss against Rayo Vallecano.
Real Sociedad are at the top of the table with 24 points and have a three-point lead. All of the LaLiga giants dropped points as Real, Atletico played draws and Barcelona lost.
The LaLiga table is compact as teams between the 2nd spot and the 7th spot are just separated by two points. Barcelona, Valencia, and Villareal are struggling in the mid-table and would be looking to climb up in the coming days
Cadiz, Levante, and Getafe find themselves in the relegation zone. Getafe are yet to win a game after 11 matches.

Rayo Vallecano 1-0 FC Barcelona
Rayo Vallecano welcomed Barcelona to the Estadio de Vallecas. A goal from Radamel Falcao was enough to give the win to Vallecano. Barcelona dominated the possession but were not able to make the most of it.
After the result, manager Ronald Koeman was sacked by the club. The club has signed Sergi Barjuan as the caretaker manager for now. According to sources, Xavi is set to become the new manager of the club in the coming days.
Deportivo Alavés 1-0 Elche
Deportivo Alaves welcomed Elche in a crucial match near the foot of the table. The first half ended goalless. Ndiaye gave a lead to Deportivo early in the second half. Which eventually turned out to be the only goal in the game.
Deportivo and Elche have tough fixtures in the second round as they face Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
Espanyol 1-1 Athletic Bilbao
Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao played out a 1-1 draw at the RCDE stadium. The result did not help any club as they are in 10th and 8th place respectively.
Raul de Tomas scored a penalty for Bilbao in the first half to give the club the lead. Inaki Williams equalized in the second half to level up the proceedings and share the points between the clubs.
Villarreal 3-3 Cadiz
Villarreal welcomed Cadiz to the Estadio de la Cerámica. This was the game of the week and had drama till the final whistle.
Lozano’s hattrick at one point put Cadiz at a 1-3 lead. But late goals from Dia and Danjuma were enough for Villareal to rescue a point at home.
Real Madrid 0-0 Osasuna
Real Madrid welcomed Osasuna to the Santiago Bernabeu in the mid-week fixture. The game ended in a goalless draw much to the disappointment of Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
Madrid, who had 75 percent of the possession and had attempted 17 shots, could not find an answer to Osasuna’s resolute defense. The draw takes Los Blancos to the second spot with 21 points.
Mallorca 1-1 Sevilla
Sevilla visited the Iberostar Estadi in an attempt to get three points and strengthen their grip on the top four spots. Sanchez gave Mallorca the lead as the club went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Sevilla, who needed to find a breakthrough, finally equalized in the 73rd minute, courtesy of Erik Lamela. The draw took Sevilla to third place in the points table.
Real Betis 4-1 Valencia
Real Betis showed no mercy to Valencia as they welcomed them to the Estadio Benito Villamarín.
A brace from Iglesias, goals from Pezzella and Juanmi were enough to see Betis through. Paulista scored for Valencia in what turned out to be just a consolation. Real Betis won the game comfortably by a 4-1 scoreline.
Levante 2-2 Atlético Madrid
With both their rivals dropping points, Atletico Madrid hoped to seize on the opportunity as they faced a resolute Levante side. Bardhi and Griezmann scored for Levante and Atletico respectively as the first half ended 1-1.
Atletico thought they had won the game with a Cunha goal in the 76th minute. But late drama ensured Levante equalized in the 90th minute through a second Bardhi penalty. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Celta Vigo 0-2 Real Sociedad
The LaLiga leaders travelled to Abanca-Balaidos stadium hoping to maintain their lead on the top of the table. Goals from Isak and Elustondo in the second half confirmed a 2-0 victory to Real Sociedad over Celta Vigo.
The win takes La Real to the top of the table. Real Sociedad now have a 3-point advantage over the second-placed Real Madrid.
Granada 1-1 Getafe
Getafe scored early and thought that they would get their first victory of the LaLiga campaign. But Granada were resolute at home and Molina scored at the 90+7’th minute to share the spoils between the clubs.
