Christian Pulisic has been handed the iconic number 10. Chelsea boss thinks he has earned it.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard credits Christian Pulisic thoroughly merits to wear the club’s number 10 shirt. Thus, he individually designated the winger with the happy news.
The ex-Borussia Dortmund player experienced a diverse first season at Stamford Bridge. His injuries restricted his influence. Although, he made 34 appearances and bagged 11 goals and 10 assists.
Pulisic used number 22 last season. This season, he managed to prove Lampard that he deserves the number 10. Especially with the departure of Chelsea’s previous holder, Willian.
Willian’s expertise made him a clear preference to replace Eden Hazard. Lampard concludes Pulisic’s initial appearances for the club and his immense potential made him a reasonable fit for the important number.
Pulisic is currently under an injury shadow traveling into the Blues’ first Premier League game of the season. They face Brighton on Monday after he hurt his hamstring in the FA Cup final versus Arsenal.
What does Lampard think about the winger?
Lampard was quoted saying “When it became open I think what Christian delivered in his first year more than warranted that he gets the shirt and what it means. I know it means a lot and there will be a few in that line to try and have that shirt but I was keen for him to have it and very pleased to actually make the call.“
Lampard is set to provide the 21-year-old every opportunity to establish his shape. Furthermore, he strongly maintains that Pulisic will only get much better this campaign.
Pulisic practiced with the team in the past couple of days. Although traveling to Brighton, Lampard will be careful with the new number 10. Pulisic is a valuable addition to the new Chelsea squad.
“I think last year, I had every feeling that Christian was going to come here and be a huge player for the club. I knew his talent, saw it very early on in his time here and it became a big talking point around the club when I didn’t start him earlier on in that season. And genuinely felt it was to give him time to adapt to the league…so I tried to protect him.” Lampard continued.
