Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted that he has been extremely impressed by Ross Barkley’s form and attitude for the Blues as well as the national team this season.
The English midfielder has been getting used to life under Lampard at Stamford Bridge after the 41-year-old Lampard took over the at the helm of the club back in July by succeeding Maurizio Sarri.
Barkley was on song for England against Bulgaria earlier this week as he scored twice and made an assist in England’s thumping 6-0 win during the international break for the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Despite being in and out of the Chelsea starting eleven, the 25-year-old is eager to bring his impressive displays at club level in order to nail down a starting berth for the west London club under Lampard’s reign.
However, Lampard has pointed out that Barkley will get an opportunity to showcase his talents if he keeps on persisting and knocking on the door.
Ahead of Chelsea’s game against Newcastle United on Saturday, Lampard waxed lyrical about Barkley claimed that he was impressed with the midfielder’s willingness to learn, “One thing I have found from working with Ross is that he really wants to learn and improve. He wants to listen and he has great talent. That is probably why people have judged him to be at a level from a young age because we do get excited when a great talent comes through in England. His move here to Chelsea where it is competitive has given him challenges, and it is up to him to show what he showed for England on Monday night, and what he is showing in parts already since I have been here because midfield players who can go by a player and who can use right and left foot and conjure a moment out of nothing are gold.”
Lampard also went on the explain that Barkley has the complete game and can still get better, “But then you have to have the complete game with that and Ross certainly has those talents and can get better.”
The Blues will return to Champions League action on Wednesday night when they make the trip to the Netherlands to face Eredivisie champions Ajax.
Barkley is quite a talented player and I think that there is a lot more of his game that he can improve on in order to become a regular for Chelsea. The key for Lampard and Chelsea would be to try and get the best out of Barkley because too many players are unable to live up to their abilities and Barkley might head into that category unless he proves his worth.
