Ruben Loftus Cheek has created a difficult situation for Frank Lampard to deal with at Chelsea.
Chelsea brought in Kai Havertz to bring resources from the midfield region with existing stars Mount, Kovacic, Jorginho, and Kante pulling the strings already. Ziyech is another star signing to strengthen up the area.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek is another potential candidate in the midfield. Despite being an important name in the squad, he has given Lampard some problems. His injury-probe trait is something that is dividing opinion regarding his future.
Loftus-Cheek started the opening game of the season away at Brighton but he is struggling with his Achilles injury. The injury kept him out for 13 months from the action. It ultimately caused a major drawback for him.
He comes under criticism from Sky Sports Pundits, Garry Neville, and Jamie Carragher. Those two disliked his performance in the 3-1 win at Amex. Ruben looked lethargic and lacking match sharpness. The 24-year-old was substituted just after half-time.
Ruben’s injury crisis
Loftus Cheek became a promising figure in the 2018/19 campaign for Chelsea. He earned plaudits for his efficiency on the ball, physicality, and never lacking stamina. Ruben also featured in the 2018 World Cup with the England national team under Gareth Southgate.
Prior to that, he had a successful loan campaign with Crystal Palace. But then injuries struck and it killed much of his opportunities in the 2017/18 season. However, he recovered to save the team from relegation. Loftus-Cheek returned to his parent club to contribute immensely.
But his ill faith with injuries struck again. Before the 2019 Europa League final which Chelsea won, Ruben ruptured his Achilles tendon in a U.S based charity and didn’t come back since February of this year. The Covid-19 pandemic further delayed his return.
Concern over his future at Chelsea
Ruben Loftus-Cheek is a beast in his pick form. But the player suffers badly from his injuries. His underwhelming performance against Brighton clearly defines the decline in his material. Even though Lampard carries faith in him it won’t be long that he heads for the exit door.
Chelsea are in the building process with summer spending changing the target for the club. It is all after that last season transfer ban, the club managed negotiations. The growing list of arrival is putting a question mark on his future.
A star-filled midfield area will eventually limit Ruben’s game minutes on the pitch so it is better the academy graduate seeks pasture new. It will be a hard decision for him but he needs to make it to continue to play at the highest level.
Twelfth Man opinion
Loftus-Cheek may well leave in this summer window only. With the addition of Kai Havertz along with the unchallenged position of Kovacic and company, Ruben is counting his day at Chelsea.
Lampard likes him but Ruben’s injury concern just won’t go. Plus, it’s his decision if he wants to leave the club to reignite his career or sit on the bench for a backup option in the 2020-21 campaign
