Jaffna has won its last three games in the LPL 2021 and looks pretty dominant. Kandy’s only win came in the previous match against Galle Gladiators on Saturday. It won the game by five wickets after successfully chasing the target of 128 runs in 18.4 overs.
It will be the second game for both teams against one another. The first match was on 8th December, which Jaffna won by 14 runs. The game was reduced to 14 overs after the rain had affected the start.
Kandy Warriors won the toss and elected to field. For Jaffna, Avishka Fernando and Thisara Perera made half-centuries and guided the team to a score of 181 runs for the loss of six wickets in 14 overs. Shiraz Ahmed of Kandy was the most successful bowler; he took three wickets in three overs and gave away 22 runs.
Kandy had a strong start as Kennar Lewis, and Charith Asalanka added 64 runs in the first six overs. Asalanka made 42 runs off 19 balls before getting dismissed in the sixth over. From that point, Lewis and Rovman Powell took the team towards the road to victory and were looking to seal the game.
However, the team lost three wickets within an interval of 11 balls which changed the course of the match, and Jaffna earned the victory. Suranga Lakmal, who picked the Powell, won the player of the match award.
