After signing Frenkie De Jong, the Catalans are seriously considering signing yet another midfielder with an eye on the future.
And coincidently, Barcelona’s latest target, Ludovit Reis is yet another Netherlands and Eredivisie superstar who plays for 8th placed FC Groningen. The 18-year old midfielder has been on Barcelona’s radar since his recent international games.
Yet another Dutchman?
A few days ago RTV Noord reported that Barcelona had held several discussions with the Dutch club for the signing of Ludovit Reis. And now the Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf has reported about the latest development in this situation.
According to the newspaper, Reis impressed Barcelona during his time for Netherlands U19 a few weeks ago. In the U19 Euro qualifiers, the midfielder started all three games against Wales, Slovenia, and Spain. Barca’s financial director, scout and academy Chief Jose Mari Bakeroalso traveled to the Netherlands to discuss Reis’s future with Groningen.
The Dutch club’s managing director, Hans Nijland also confirmed that Barcelona’s internest in the 18-year old is “very serious”. The Catalans are looking to sign the player and make him the part of Barcelona B side with an eye on the future. According to De Telegraaf, the Spaniards reportedly have a concrete plan for Reis’s future.
The midfielder has also been an integral part of Groningen’s squad in Eredivisie with 22 starts and 3 substitute appearances. Although considered as a defensive midfielder, Reis can also play a little further as used by the U19 Dutch side. The 18-year old is a solid CDM when it comes to defending with his ball interceptions and tackling. But he will have to improve his passing and that is exactly where the Catalans can help him at Barcelona B.
Barcelona will be in action on Saturday against last-placed Huesca on Saturday as they look to keep the 11-poingt gap between themselves and Atletico Madrid. The Spanish club will them host Manchester United in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals after winning 1-0 at the Old Trafford.
We know very little about the young Ludovit Reis at the moment to guess if it will be a good signing for the Catalans or not. But looking at the trust his club and national team has shown in him, it doesn’t look like a bad investment at all. And especially at the age of 18, there are a very few better places than Barcelona Academy to sharpen your footballing skills.
