Leeds interested in signing Arsenal player amid contract issue

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is still sorting out the team. Arteta will surely sell some players to raise funds.

Arsenal has dominated the transfer news headlines, linked to possible signings and shortlisted stars. In fact, Arteta is already busy working on some of them and another summer signing may not be a surprise to fans.

The Gunners have already signed Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille for £25 million. Arteta has proved that he doesn’t just have a plan, he has one that works too! He made a statement after the FA Cu win, underlined it after winning the Community Shield.

But while incomings are imminent, departures are too. The Spaniard has been chasing Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey so desperately that relatively new players Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira are set to leave. The new name that has added to that list is their goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Martinez performance post Leno injury

When Bernd Leno left on a stretcher, Arsenal looked hapless and desperate for a No.2. Little did they know that their backup will be the one to ensure them silverware. When Emiliano Martinez sat weeping with his winners’ medal, only he knew the long battle he had just won.

Emiliano Martinez has been at the club for 10 years now, but before the 2019/20, his appearances for the first team were just 25 – in a decade. Last season though, he made 23 appearances, keeping 9 clean sheets and earning 2 points per match. (via Transfermarkt)

However though, Football is business – it always has been, under the GARP of marketing it as more than a game to Heineken almost synonymous to the Champions League. It is, though, just business. In fact, so is the club.

They didn’t bat an eyelid to remove 55 positions at the club at a time when people are dying for jobs. They didn’t bat an eyelid to keep paying Ozil to watch the match with an umbrella. Why should they blink for his exit?

Though talks for an extension are on, The Mail believes Arteta will be happy to sell the 27-year-old for a fee of around £20m – almost thrice his price on Transfermarkt. A substantial profit from the Argentine may allow Arsenal to chase their priority targets.

Martinez future undecided

When a goalkeeper can show the gargantuan level of patience Emiliano has shown, winning 2 silverwares in quick succession, he’s top cake. As a result, multiple clubs have shortlisted him for the upcoming season.

The interest from Spain primarily comes from Real Betis and Valencia. Valencia may be caught up in a financial crisis during the pandemic, but they still seek depth in their squad. Though they have former Barcelona-man Jasper Cillessen, Emi will be the perfect back up.

Another club had expressed interest in the Argentine – Real Betis. The men in green and white may have lost their architect Setien to Barcelona, but were looking for a man between the sticks. In fact, they got one as former Manchester City man Claudio Bravo signed for Real Betis today.

However, the most significant interest comes from Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United. The former English giants return to the Premier League after 16 years and have already made three signings. Emiliano Martinez, additionally, will bring added Premier League experience if he chooses to move, claims Mail.
