Norwegian goal machine Erling Haaland joined Manchester City at the start of this season when the Citizens paid his release clause worth £51 million to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
Having already shown his potential in Dortmund, this was one of the biggest transfers of the last summer transfer window. And since then, he has been a sensation for the Manchester City team.
Within days, Haaland became the most important player for the Manchester City team. The forward has already netted 20 goals for Manchester City in this season. This also includes three hattricks against Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and arch-rivals Manchester United.
Manchester City striker warned by Lewandowski
The Norwegian is currently on a record-breaking spree. So naturally, people are predicting that he will have a cakewalk to the Golden boot and as well the next Gerd Muller award for the best striker.
This season’s winner Lewandowski however had a different opinion. Although Haaland is a very big competition, the Barcelona striker thinks he did not have his ‘last word’ in the Golden Boot race.
“I have the opportunity to score a lot of goals and I am sure that altogether we are working on this. This is football. You have to be always ready. I know that the new competition is also coming but still, I am still here and I didn’t said my final word yet,” said Lewandowski after winning the award.
The best striker award was introduced for the first time last season. Polish striker Robert Lewandowski who narrowly lost the Ballon d’Or was adjudged the winner of the first season.
Then the award was renamed the Gerd Muller award for the best striker. It was done to show respect towards former Bayern Munich and Germany legend the great Gerd Muller.
Then Lewandowski Gerd Muller’s record in Bundesliga, last season. He pumped 41 goals in the league while doing so. As a result, the Polish striker retained the trophy.
Lewandowski joined Barcelona at the start of the season. The forward has gotten a great start to his career in Spain. He has already scored 14 goals for his new team and is the leader of their upfront.
Now he knows what Erling Haaland is capable off and what he is producing in the English Premier League. However, he is still confident to get the better of the Manchester City striker in the upcoming edition.
