Barcelona haven’t made the ideal start to the 18/19 season with thanks to the overdependence on Lionel Messi- who could leave Barcelona on a free- only on one condition.
Lionel Messi could leave Barcelonafor NOTHING in just under two years due to his “special exit clause”. According to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga giants will allow their superstar to leave the Nou Camp for nothing only if he joins a club which is not included the top leagues. That means he could depart the Nou Camp in a similar fashion to Xavi and Andres Iniesta, who joined clubs in Qatar and Japan.
Messi’s Barcelona contract expires in 2021 but the Blaugrana will allow the Argentinean to leave the club one year before the expiration date, the same thing that they did with Dani Alves who left Barcelona in summer 2016 to join Juventus as a free agent. His contract would have expired in 2017.
But the Barca board are trying to tie down the 31-year-old to a new long-term deal. And they want him to commit his future to at least 2022. Messi, who currently has a A$1.1 billion release clause, has already indicated he wants to stay in Spain until he is no longer able to compete at the highest level. But the “special release clause” is there to give him the option of one last major payday.
Meantime according to el Chiringuito de Jugones, the Blaugrana seem to have identified the heir of Luis Suarez in Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino. The La Liga giants are preparing for life after Suarez as the performances of the Uruguay striker have dropped. Firmino is one of the candidates to replace him alongside Genoa’s Piatek who has been monitored several times by the Blaugrana.
I think Messi is still at the top of his game, he has been the best player in the world so far this season. If going by his form, he will take his time to leave Barcelona.
