Lionel Messi Has Finally Revealed Why He And Cristiano Ronaldo Can’t Be Good Friends

Lionel Messi doesn’t believe that he will ever be good friends with Cristiano Ronaldo, despite Los Blancos star saying that the duo can be pals in the near future.

The Barcelona and Real Madrid pair have fought against each other for decades to prove who is better but there is no definitive answer to this question. Both the players have dominated football like no one else, all while playing at opposite side in one of the game’s greatest rivalries of all time.

The Rivalry Dates Back To 2009.

Messi began his professional career with Barcelona in 2009 while on the other hand, Ronaldo joined Real Madrid back in 2009 to commence the rivalry. Both the players have dominated individual honors in such a way that it was never seen before since they arrived on the pitch.

They both sit on the top with five Ballon D’Ors each- which is quite a stunning haul considering previous records of three Ballon d’Or won by Michel Platini, Johan Cruyff, and Marco van Basten. The duo has always shown respect for each other, despite being the talisman of rival factions, but on the other hand, they never had a relationship out of the football pitch.

Despite this Ronaldo has once admitted that he and Messi can be good friends, once both of them have retired from football. The Barcelona Talisman was recently asked if he agrees with Ronaldo but appears to hold a different opinion to his long-term rival.

In an interview with World Soccer Magazine, Messi said: “I don’t know if we will be [friends in the future]. Friendship is built through spending time together and getting to know each other.”

“We have no relationship, mainly because we only see each other at awards ceremonies, and that’s the only time we speak. Everything is fine, but our lives don’t cross very often.”

Author’s Take-

Both of them are on the top of their game now. It seems like every other weekend either Messi or Ronaldo are breaking one or the other record. As long as they are hitting the football pitches, it is hard to think of any other player who can challenge them for the Ballon d’Or. It would’ve been even much better than both of them would’ve been good friends.
