Barcelona president Joan Laporta remained coy when questioned about Lionel Messi’s potential return. Messi joined PSG on a free transfer in 2021, putting an end to his 21-year-long association with the Blaugrana.
He played 778 games (in all competitions) during his time at Camp Nou, registering 672 goals and 303 assists. Messi helped the Catalonia outfit claim 10 La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League trophies, among other honours. The Argentina international boasts si European Golden Shoes, seven Ballon d’Or, and eight Pichichi Trophies in his trophy cabinet. He was also named LaLiga’s Best Player on seven different occasions.
Is Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona?
While speaking to the media recently, Barcelona president Joan Laporta talked about Lionel Messi’s potential return to Camp Nou. He said: “He knows that at Barca he always has his home.
But let me not talk about Leo because he is a player for another team and we would enter again into a series of statements and counter-statements that would not benefit us at all.”
Lionel Messi struggled to get going at the Parc des Princes during his debut season, managing to score just six goals in 26 league appearances. However, he found his form this term, registering seven goals and 10 assists in 13 Ligue 1 games. Messi also contributed four goals and four assists in five UEFA Champions League appearances.
The Argentina international’s contract with the Parisians will expire at the end of the current season. PSG are keen to extend his stay but Messi will reportedly make a decision on his future after the World Cup.
Apart from PSG and Barcelona, Major League Soccer club Inter Miami are also interested in securing his services. It will be intriguing to see what the 35-year-old attacker decides about his future.
Barcelona receive a bid for Franck Kessie
The Ivory Coast international has struggled to get going since joining the Blaugrana on a Bosman deal from AC Milan during the summer window. He has managed to start just two La Liga games so far.
Aston Villa are another Premier League side interested in signing the former AC Milan midfielder. Kessie could look to move away from Camp Nou in January in order to secure regular first-team football.
