While Liverpool is all set to begin their new campaign against Norwich City on Saturday. The Canaries will host Merseyside at Carrow Road. It is going to be the fourth time when both the teams will face each other in their opening game of a new season.
While the last time both came face to face in an opener was in 2019. Norwich City were thrashed by Liverpool by 4-1 at Anfield. Though it is to be seen whether anything changes around this time, as the Reds are the clear favourites going into this match.
Jurgen Klopp, full of praise for Billy Gilmour
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is full of praise for the young Billy Gilmour. Klopp, in the press conference, said that Billy Gilmour is probably one of the best Scottish players that the nation has produced in half a century.
This is certainly a huge praise coming from a manager of high calibre for the Scottish youngster. Billy Gilmour came through the ranks at the Rangers academy and eventually signed for Chelsea in 2017. Chelsea did pay a £500,000 development fee for him.
The 20-year-old player has so far made 11 appearances for the senior team. He also scored 7 goals so far for the Blues. Since Chelsea has this jam-packed quality midfield, it was certainly very challenging for Billy to make way into the first team.
Billy Gilmour eventually made a loan move to the newly promoted Norwich City recently. Though many clubs were keen to sign him on loan when he was made available by the European champions.
Leeds United, Newcastle United, Wolves and Norwich City were interested in him and at last he made the decision to join the Canaries. No doubt he will be in contention for the Liverpool game on Saturday night.
Virgil van Dijk to make a comeback
The Reds key defender and player Virgil van Dijk could possibly start for Liverpool against Norwich City on Saturday. The Dutch International was out for close to nine months after receiving a horrible injury after clashing with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
However, the centre back went through a surgery on his right foot which saw him miss many games last season. As a result of his absence, Liverpool’s form massively took a downturn. The Reds were receiving losses on a back-to-back basis and the whole season started to crumble after more injuries in the squad.
Liverpool finished at the third place on the points table and also lost their Premier League title to Manchester City. The club will be hoping to at least challenge the Citizens and other teams for the Domestic title. And no doubt that the key players of Liverpool will be very important in pursuit of that.
Nevertheless, the Reds will be hoping to start their season with a win against the Canaries on Saturday night. This will also be a crucial game for Virgil van Dijk.
