Darren Bent believes Klopp could surprise everyone by signing this young star.
Despite narrowly missing out on the Premier League title, Liverpool ended the season on a high note after winning the Champions League. They narrowly missed the Premier League but were successful in building inside that would compete for titles for years. However reinforcements are required, there are reports claiming that Jurgen Klopp wants a new goalkeeper and a back-up full-back to act as understudy to Alisson.
According to Darren Bent, Liverpool could surprise everyone by signing this player. Ajax captain De Ligt is expected to move this summer after a fine season for the Dutch side.
Barcelona are heavily linked with the 19-year-old, as are Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
But reports also say Liverpool have shown an interest in the Holland international.
De Ligt plays alongside Reds defender Virgil van Dijk for his country and Bent says seeing them together at club level would be great for Liverpool.
They may go out and surprise everybody and go and get De Ligt, Virgil’s Dutch team-mate,” Bent said on Sky Sports News.
“If they can manage to pull that one off and those two can play together, that would be brilliant.”
Liverpool finished second in the Premier League table last season, one point behind champions Manchester City, but managed to end the campaign in triumphant style by winning the Champions League.
Bent says there are not many improvements Jurgen Klopp needs to make to his squad
You’re happy with what they’ve got, you can always strengthen somewhere,” he continued.
“Where? You don’t know, obviously going forward they’re brilliant.
“Midfield it seems like they’ve got so many in there that can play.
“[Georginio] Wijnaldum, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and then [James] Milner slots in there.
“Obviously at the back [they’ve got] Virgil, [Joel] Matip, [Dejan] Lovren, Andy Robertson, [Joe] Gomez, Trent [Alexander-Arnold]. They’ve got players everywhere to be fair.
I’m sure Jurgen Klopp is probably looking at something.
“At the moment you would say they are full strength. But I’m sure Jurgen Klopp is probably looking at one or two areas where he’d like a bit more cover.
“With Daniel Sturridge going maybe they need to get another centre-forward in just to backup [Roberto] Firmino.
“Maybe that’s one area he might look at but other than that it’s tough.”
Neither Klopp or Liverpool expressed their interest to sign De Ligt. However, if Liverpool does sign him, they’ll have one of the best defensive pairings in recent years.
