Liverpool will have a tough challenge at Anfield on the weekend when they host Manchester United in the Premier League. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is the only manager this season who has managed to draw a game against an unbeaten Jurgen Klopp’s side. Prior to this clash, the reds have received a major squad update that could prove beneficial for their cause.
Three of the currently injured players will return to Jurgen Klopp’s squad before their clash against United. According to the reports, Dejan Lovren, Fabinho, and Joel Matip have started showing their fitness at the training grounds. They are expected to make a return soon.
Liverpool is currently 14 points clear on the top with a game in hand. Apart from their 1-1 draw in the last meeting against the Red Devils, Klopp’s men haven’t dropped points on any other matchdays. Although the result of this game won’t significantly affect their lead over City, they would still want to emerge as the invincible champions.
“It will be a big one and we try to be ready for that” – Klopp
As a statement to the club’s official website, Klopp claimed-
“I wait until they [injured players] are on the pitch and somebody tells me they are allowed to do the full session. The game on Sunday against United, we all know what people expect from us from that game.”
While talking about the updates form his squad, Klopp revealed-
“It looks like Joel will be in, it looks like Fabinho will be in maybe a day later, I’m not sure. Dejan, maybe he can be in as well. That means a lot and helps massively of course. But we will see how it works, the week is very important.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United has also been struggling with injuries. It will be interesting to see how Solksjaer picks his squad after a humiliating defeat against Manchester City in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
