The latest reports have claimed that Premier League giants Liverpool are looking to snap up a deal for Real Madrid star winger Marco Asensio in the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his squad for the upcoming season. The German boss is also looking at back up options if any of his star players leave the club and Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah could be included in the deal.
Liverpool was crowned as champions of Europe for the sixth time in their illustrious history when they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final in Madrid. But despite having the best ever campaign in the Premier League ever since the club was formed in 1892, Liverpool finished in 2nd place on the English table, and one point behind eventual champions Manchester City.
The blue half of Manchester has broken plenty of records over the past two years in the Premier League and look like a unit that will dominate the English league for quite a while. However, Klopp is desperate to dethrone Guardiola’s team over the next campaign to end Liverpool’s 30-year long wait for a Premier League title.
The Champions League holders have had a relatively quiet summer transfer window as they lured in only teenage defender Sepp Van Den Berg so far but that could change drastically if they decide to make a move for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.
The 23-year-old Asensio is a prime target for a few top clubs in the European continent and Liverpool are looking to throw the kitchen sink to sign the young attacker who is valued at around £75 million. Asensio is a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian leaves Anfield in the summer. However, Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane wants Senegalese superstar Sadio Mane as part of the deal if Asensio decides to make a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
Asensio has not been a regular for Real Madrid over the past few seasons but the Spaniard has shown that he has the ability and the skill to play for a top club in Europe on a regular basis.
It’s quite unlikely that Liverpool will allow their top two goalscorers to willingly leave the club unless something materializes. Asensio will have to adapt to the pace of the Premier League and Klopp’s style of play but I don’t see Mane and Salah leaving Merseyside this summer.
