Former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has lavished Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba with praise.
The 24-year-old has been in fine form this season for the Red Devils and while an injury to his hamstring did hamper any progress he made, the Frenchman has returned to form. With three goals and five assists in the Premier League, Paul Pogba may finally be living up to his price tag and has flourished with the arrival of Nemanja Matic.
However, despite that Pogba will miss Manchester United’s next three matches after he picked up a red card during the 3-1 win over Arsenal. It will be a massive blow for Jose Mourinho and the Red Devils’ especially given how influential the central midfielder can be for the team. And Champions League winner and pundit Steven Gerard has noticed how well the Frenchman has played.
In an interview, the Liverpool legend said “He obviously came in with a huge price tag and that comes with big, big pressure, especially at a club like Manchester United. He’s growing all the time. I think he certainly makes Manchester United a lot stronger, more of a threat in the final third. He’s a quality passer but his biggest strength is his athleticism, his legs.
He can join the defensive side of Manchester United’s game but he can also help the forward players because of his legs and passing ability so he makes them an awful lot of a bigger threat. He’s also a threat in the box off set-pieces and defending side of it as well, he’s a big giant in the box and a big presence there.”
However, given all Paul Pogba’s abilities to go forward and become an attacking threat would be a massive miss for the Red Devils against Manchester City. But while United do have the likes of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini to replace Pogba, the stats prove that those shoes will certainly be very tough to fill. According to Opta, Paul Pogba already has six assists in his 12 appearances, which has equalled as many as he had last season in 51 appearances.
Mission accomplished: onto the next round 👊🏾Very happy for our victory! Disappointed to not play on Sunday but we focus on the present. Supporting our team all the way this weekend. @ManUtd #mufc #heretocreate pic.twitter.com/RcTAgw4Ylm

In an interview, Pogba added “We need to. To win those games you need to give everything. You need to be there offensively, defensively. Kill the game when you have one chance because they are City and they have quality as well in front and they can kill the game at any time.
They are first for good reason because they have been doing great at the start of the season. They keep winning and they didn’t lose one game and obviously mentally they are very strong.”
Signed last season by Jose Mourinho for a then world record fee of just under a £100 million, Paul Pogba struggled in his first season, failing to live up to his price-tag. However, the former Juventus star has been absolutely brilliant for the Red Devils and with Gerard comparing the Frenchman to himself things can only go upwards for him.
This is exactly why his absence will be felt by both Mourinho and his team.
