Liverpool news: Didi Hamann urges Darwin Nunez to play for the team

Liverpool news: The Reds have splashed a club-record transfer fee of €100 million to sign striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica earlier this transfer window.

Nunez is one of the most talented attackers in Europe right now. He enjoyed a terrific 2021-22 season at the Estadio da Luz, scoring 26 goals in 28 Liga Bwin appearances.

The Uruguay international won the Primeira Liga’s Golden Shoe last term and was also named the CNID Footballer of the Year. Nunez played a key role in the Eagles’ run to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, scoring six goals in 10 appearances.

The 22-year-old striker will play a massive role of spearheading the Reds’ attack during the 2022-23 season.

Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Harmann has urged the Reds’ new forward Darwin Nunez to put the team’s interest first rather than focus on individual accomplishments.

Speaking to the media, he said: “Obviously they want to score goals and they want the headlines but they put their own interests to the back to play for the team, which is not always the case.

In Nunez now we’ve got to wait to see how the dynamics of the team changes, but so far I have to say, it looks pretty good.”

The Reds signed the Portugal international as a replacement for Sadio Mane, who left to join Bayern Munich. Nunez has instantly hit the ground running, scoring four goals in a friendly game against RB Leipzig last week. He will look to continue his fine goalscoring form when the Premier League commences on August 6.

Meanwhile, Didi Hamann spent seven seasons with the Reds between 1999 and 2006. He played 191 league games during his time with the club, scoring eight goals.
