The Cityzens beat Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG, and Manchester United to sign the Norway international. They will pay a transfer fee of close to €60 million to Borussia Dortmund for his services.
Pep Guardiola sees Haaland as a long-term successor to Sergio Aguero, who left the Cityzens for Barcelona last summer. Jurgen Klopp has also praised Haaland in the past and the Norway international scored against the Reds during their UEFA Champions League clash in 2019.
The Reds have shown some interest in signing him. But they didn’t make any approach due to the abundance of attacking talent they have amongst their ranks already.
Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp gives verdict on Haaland move
The Reds manager Jurgen Klopp backs Erlind Haaland to succeed at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking to the media, he said: “Good player. City was never and will never be a team that wins because of one player. They have a specific way to play, and I think Erling will all of a sudden realise that he will score a lot of goals at the second post where he just puts his foot on it. He will love that. He is a real beast.”
Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have deployed some rivalry in recent years. Klopp’s Liverpool are currently engaged with the Cityzens in a fierce battle to win the Premier League title.
Manchester City are currently leading the Reds in the league table on goal difference. Liverpool will next play Chelsea for the final of the FA Cup, while Manchester City will lock horns against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league.
