Liverpool News: It was a rather fascinating evening for Liverpool fans as they saw their club legend go up against their current Jefe. Steven Gerrard has done a wonderful job with Villa and last night was a tough game for both sides.
Liverpool who is chasing City could not afford to drop any more points which is why it was a must-win game. Villa on the other hand didn’t have much to gain or lose. But still, it was an important game for Gerrard.
This was his opportunity to show his progress as a manager. Villa went for an aggressive start and Douglas Luiz managed to open the scoring in the 3rd minute. However, Liverpool was quick to equalize in the 6th minute.
The fact that brought out Gerrard’s similarity to Klopp was how easily Villa allowed Liverpool to take over the game after a good start. Jurgen Klopp has a tendency to storm into the dugout at halftime but this time he was accompanied by Stevie G.
Liverpool News: Steven Gerrard is growing his skillset as a manager
Jurgen Klopp has recently signed an extension with Liverpool. As per his new contract, he will now stay with the club till 2026 with chances of another extension. So as of now, there is no scope for Gerrard to think about a Liverpool managerial job.
However, this does provide an ample amount of time for him to pick up important aspects of being a manager. Within these 4-5 years if Gerrard can get a few achievements under his belt, he could very well be Liverpool’s next manager.
As per reports for the Mirror, Stevie Gerrard rushed into the dugout at halftime trying to boost his team up, quite similar to what Jurgen Klopp does. However, Liverpool was the better side emerging out of the dugout at halftime.
Aston Villa was close to the top 6 at a point in time. But then things went sideways and now they find themselves at the halfway point of the table. Steven Gerrard still has a long way to go as this Villa side certainly has the talent to compete for the top 6.

This current Aston Villa team has a lot of talented names in their squad. At the top, they have the veteran Danny Ings along with Ollie Watkins. They have good names like Coutinho, Douglas Luiz, and Mcginn in Midfield.
Leon Bailey was someone who was dearly missed this season. Digne, Cash, Konsa, and Mings all have the potential to take the next step. All in all, this is a very good team in need of quality leadership.
The challenge for Steven Gerrard is to make a couple of good signings and push this team to their very best. Bench strength will also play a key role as injuries are something you should always account for in the Premier League.
If Gerrard is able to gel this squad together, they have the potential to push for Europe. Liverpool’s management will also keep a keen eye on Gerrard’s performance as a manager. His journey with Villa will play a crucial role if he is to develop a future with Liverpool.
