Liverpool news: The Reds were interested in signing RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer before the transfer deadline.
Laimer has established himself among the best midfielders in the Bundesliga since joining Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer window of 2017. He has played 111 league games for the German club so far, scoring seven goals.
The 25-year-old helped Salzburg win the DFB-Pokal in 2021-22 and was also part of the Red Bulls team that reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League last term. Laimer was included in the UEFA Europa League Team of the Season 2021-22 for his performances.
The RB Salzburg academy graduate is also a vital member of the Austrian national team. He has represented his country 24 times since making his debut in 2019.

According to Athletic, Liverpool tried to sign Konrad Laimer before the transfer deadline.
However, the German club was reluctant to sell the Austrian this close to the deadline, which forced the Reds to pursue a deal for Juventus’ Arthur Melo.
The Brazil international has arrived at Anfield on a season-long loan, with the Reds also having the option to sign him permanently for €37.5 million at the end of the season. Other than that, the Merseyside outfit also inquired about Denis Zakaria from Juventus.
Liverpool have enjoyed a decent summer transfer window under the leadership of Jurgen Klopp. Apart from Arthur, Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay, and Fabio Carvalho have joined the Reds.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig is currently ninth in the Bundesliga table with five points from four games. They will next lock horns against Eintracht Frankfurt in the league before facing Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League group stage game on September 9. Laimer is likely to play a key role for Leipzig in both games.
