According to Athletic, Liverpool tried to sign Konrad Laimer before the transfer deadline.

However, the German club was reluctant to sell the Austrian this close to the deadline, which forced the Reds to pursue a deal for Juventus’ Arthur Melo.

The Brazil international has arrived at Anfield on a season-long loan, with the Reds also having the option to sign him permanently for €37.5 million at the end of the season. Other than that, the Merseyside outfit also inquired about Denis Zakaria from Juventus.

According to a report by the Times, Henderson could miss the Merseysiders’ next five games as he recovers from the setback. The England international will undergo a scan later this week, which will determine the full severity of the injury.

What’s next?

Liverpool have had a difficult start to the season, winning just two of their opening five league games. They will next go up against their city rivals Everton at Goodison Park in a PL game on Saturday.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig is currently ninth in the Bundesliga table with five points from four games. They will next lock horns against Eintracht Frankfurt in the league before facing Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League group stage game on September 9. Laimer is likely to play a key role for Leipzig in both games.
