Real Madrid Transfer news: Los Blancos linked with January move for PSG attacker

Real Madrid are reportedly looking to sign unsettled Paris Saint-Germain attacker, Julian Draxler. According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Los Blancos are keen on signing the German international in the January transfer window.

He moved to Paris in January earlier this year and has struggled to nail down his place in Unai Emery’s starting eleven.Emery’s midfield is full of talent, which has made it difficult for Draxler to break into the team.Angel Di Maria, Hatem Ben Arfa and PSG’s latest record fee acquisition Neymar, are all ahead of the German in the pecking order.

The former FC Schalke 04 is one of a host of PSG players linked with moves in January. The club’s higher officials seem intent on a clearout of the squad and reinvesting in new talent.

Zidane looking to reinforce with Draxler in January

After selling Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez in the summer, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is looking to add some quality in depth to his squad. After their failed pursuit of Kylian Mbappe in the summer, Los Blancos are ready to spend in January to bring in some much-needed depth to their squad.

Zidane will look to gain ground on Barcelona at the top of the table with some quality additions to the squad.

Real Madrid have made a slow start to their season, however, they’ve picked up their form lately. The recent 3-1 win against Borussia Dortmund is a positive sign for Zidane and his men.

Joachim Loew believes PSG will keep Draxler

Despite all the rumours, German national team coach Joachim Loew believes that the former VfL Wolfsburg man will stay in Paris. Speaking on the possible transfer, Loew denied that the player was close to leaving PSG.

Loew said, “I know for a fact that Paris don’t want to sell him. They are convinced of his outstanding qualities.” Outstanding or not, it is clear that Draxler isn’t a significant part of Emery’s future plans and it looks as though Real Madrid might get him on a bargain.

Author’s take

Given the lack of depth in Madrid’s squad, it is easy to see why Zidane is pursuing Draxler. The German’s versatility makes him an asset in the final third and is certainly a very useful option to have, in regular league games and in the big UEFA Champions League ties as well. Draxler will also be good competition for the likes of Isco and Marco Asensio.
