Louis van Gaal has his say on who will win the Premier league

Liverpool suffered their first defeat in the Premier League this season as they were beaten 1-2 by Manchester City at the Etihad

It was as good as a must-win fixture for Guardiola’s men, which they did. Sergio Aguero fired the Citizens into the lead. Roberto Firmino leveled things up but Sane’s strike soon after sealed all three points for the home side. The victory meant that City finished game week 21 with 50 points and now trail the Reds by just 4 points. The Premier League title chase is all set to go down to the wire, And Tottenham Hotspur, who are just 2 points behind City are very much in contention. However, former Barcelona and Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal feels that Liverpool will lift the title come to the end of the season,

“Klopp has turned Liverpool into an absolute fighting machine – both attacking and defending,” he told the Mirror.

“So, if I was to put my money on one club for the league, it would be Liverpool.

“Liverpool’s team is not based on the highest quality when it comes to their players. In fact, the highest quality players are at City.

“But, at the same time, that is the weakness in Guardiola. He only coaches his teams in an attacking way – always.

“The moment his team have to defend, they look terrible. Liverpool have a team that can defend much better.”

He said City didn’t have the fighting spirit to snatch the title from the jaws of the Reds,

“City have fabulous football ideas and a sparkling way of playing – but not the right fighting spirit,” he said.

“Don’t get me wrong, I still love to watch the way City play. But the way Klopp makes Liverpool play is absolutely fantastic.”

Liverpool were in a very similar situation back in the 2013-14 season, when they were well clear of Manchester city at an advanced stage in the title race, and yet failed to win it. So Liverpool fans and players will always have that monkey on the back.

Author’s Take

All in all, even if Liverpool don’t end up winning the league, they deserve a lot of credit as they have certainly been the best side so far.
