FC Barcelona has recently sacked Ernesto Valverde and appointed Quique Setien in his place. The New Barca coach promised to bring back the Cryuff Philosophy and also insisted that his team will play well. The Barca players materialized his tactics in the first match itself against Granada. There was a definite shift in the Barca buildup, and Barcelona had the complete control of the game. Just before Setien arrived at the helm of things, Barca’s star striker Luis Suarez got injured. He got sidelined for four months.
Barcelona shortlist Luis Suarez ‘s replacement
Barcelona is currently yet to make their decision of whether they will sign a new number 9 to replace him this season. The Catalan Club has discussed three players’ names who the Board believes to have the quality to replace Luis Suarez. The Board is determined to back the new manager in the transfer market.
Barca and Real Madrid currently have the same number of points at the top of the table. The Blaugranas are in the no. 1 position, thanks to their superior goal difference. The Club believed that an excellent transfer window is vital for Barcelona to win its fifth Laliga title in six years. Luis Suarez has been in an excellent form this season in Laliga, having scored 14 goals in 23 games alongside Lionel Messi.
Dani Olmo is in the shortlist to replace Luis Suarez
Barcelona has shortlisted the names of Dani Olmo from Dinamo Zagreb, AC Milan attacker Krzysztof Piatek and Pedro of Chelsea. Wolves and Milan are already after the Spanish international Player Dani Olmo. But, the player wants regular Champions League football. Hence, Barcelona can edge their rivals as they can certainly offer him that.
Krzysztof Piatek is also one of the options.
The Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona is looking to sign Krzysztof Piatek in January itself. The Sun also reveals Newcastle United’s and Aston Villa’s interest in Piatek. Barca is still not sure whom to sign in January to replace the injured Luis Suarez. Hence, they held a meeting on Monday to discuss their plans. Replacing Luis Suarez is the no. 1 priority for the Catalans. Piatek has fallen down the pecking order due to the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. So, Barcelona is looking to hijack the deal from Newcastle and Aston Villa’s hands.
Ex Barca Man Pedro may also get the nod
Another Star who is in the shortlist of the Club is the ex Barca man Pedro. Although, he is a strange candidate to replace the free-scoring Luis Suarez. Pedro’s goal contribution comes nowhere close to the Uruguayan. However, Pedro’s contract expires at the end of the season. He is an ardent Barcelona fan and so can run back to the Blaugranas if summoned.
“If Barcelona calls me, I leave everything,” the Spaniard told L’Esportiu before Christmas. “I was talking to the coach, but the door closed quickly. Now I don’t know what will happen.”
