Luka Modric has been a world class midfielder since signing for Madrid in 2012 and his efforts were finally rewarded by the UEFA. Here’s a look at a few of his words.
Luka Modric won the UEFA Best Midfielder and UEFA Best Player Awards on Thursday night following a fabulous season with Croatia and Real Madrid. The Croat was one of the standout players across all of Europe and his statistics and contribution were duly recognized by Europe’s footballing committee.
After being announced as the winner, Modric said that is great playing for the world’s best club and subsequently stated in an interview that he was happy with the defending European champions amid talks of a transfer to Italian giants Inter Milan earlier in this summer.
“I am in the best club of the world,” Modric told reporters after beating former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo to the award in Monaco. “I want to be here. I am not happy, I am super happy being here, very quiet and I just like to keep working doing well things like last six years.”
Modric – who also won the Golden Ball at the World Cup in Russia after leading Croatia to the final – added: “As I already said, I am really happy to be here. I have been working to achieve as high as possible, so thanks to god I am here. This is the best year of my career collectively and individually, so I am really enjoying, we have to keep working.”
The likeliness of Modric staying in Madrid was imminent by every passing day of the transfer window. However, his presence in Madrid comes as fantastic news for the Real Madrid fans, who had to stream tears of sadness after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. Luka can fit into any system and adapts well to being a change. That is exactly what makes him one of the world’s best midfielders, and Real Madrid are privileged to have him.
