Madrid star didn’t want to be Enrique

Los Blancos star midfielder Isco has revealed that he did not want to leave the club like Luis Enrique and head for Barcelona having let his contract run out as the Catalan club wished. Barcelona wanted Isco to not accept a new contract and then head to Camp Nou as a free agent in a similar way to Luis Enrique during the 1995-96 season, which would be the only way as they knew that Real would never negotiate with them.

The 25-year-old Spanish international penned a new deal with Galacticos that keeps him with the club until 2022. His previous deal was due to expire in 2018 and there were doubts looming over his future especially from the Catalan club. It looked like he was going to do what Luis Enrique did during the 1995-96 season but he’s buried all those possibilities with this deal. The Spain international, according to AS, will earn an annual salary of €6 million on his new contract, which reportedly has a €700m release clause in it.

This barney legged 25 years Spaniard has certainly been catching some eyes with his scintillating performances of late. People have made comparisons with the likes of Zidane and Iniesta. 2017 was his year to shine, his crazy touches, the fluidity in his game and his match-winning performances made him a fan favorite. He was voted the best player for the season 2016-2017 by the Bernabeu faithful. He’s adored by the fans and his a pleasure to watch when in form. After Ronaldo and Messi there’s bracket of footballers and Isco seems to be right up there.

Isco is enjoying the form of his life both for club and country. The way he toyed with Verrati in a game against Italy he turned a world class defensive midfielder a mere spectator. He has done that to quite a few players this year and his performances have been rising exponentially. Credit goes to Florentino Perez to offer him an extension and set is buyout clause so high that the likes of PSG don’t think about doing what they did with Neymar. He’s won 11 trophies with Real Madrid including three Champions League, playing under Zidane with a world class squad is only going to make him better and reach greater heights,
