Real Madrid star gives a damning verdict of the club’s season

Real Madrid continued their patchy season, drawing 2-2 away at Celta Vigo

Real Madrid’s season keeps on getting worse. They started the year 14 points behind Barcelona with a game in hand and now the gap has extended to 16 points. Los Blancos dropped 2 valuable points at the Balaidos against a spirited Celta Vigo side.

Daniel Wass put Celta ahead with a 33rd-minute goal. Gareth Bale. then, scored a quick-fire brace to give Madrid the lead before halftime. As Zidane’s men seemed to be on their way to undeserved victory, Iago Aspas scored to restore parity in the game.

Speaking after the match, Real Madrid’s Brazilian left-back Marcelo gave a scathing review of the club’s season.

Marcelo did not mince his words

Marcelo said, “We’re sad and we’re f***ing sunk. We’re trying to get out of this mess and we’re working to do that but we don’t like this at all.”

“It’s difficult because the more matches you draw or lose, the more the pressure increases. We can’t do anything else. We do what we can, we try to play good football, score the goals and circulate the ball, but it’s not happening for us.”

Marcelo has had a terrible season by his own standards

The latest disappointment meant that Madrid is winless in the last four away games in La Liga. There’s no choice but to show your best face and fight. Fight and give your best so you can win.”

Author’s Take

There is no way that Real Madrid can salvage the La Liga season now. When the vice-captain of a team says that they are ‘f*****’ then there is something bad going on. 16 points behind a Barcelona side rejuvenated by their new signing Phillipe Coutinho and fit again Ousmane Dembele will be hard to catch. Zidane will do well to put all his eggs in the Champions League shaped basket now.

It is Champions League or bust for Real Madrid this season.
