Defending English Premier League giants Manchester City played out a goalless draw against German club Borussia Dortmund.
Having already qualified for the next stages, Manchester City just needed one point to secure the top of the group stage. Meanwhile, Dortmund needed one point to secure their place in the round of 16.
Manchester City started with a 4-4-2 formation. Stefan Ortega started under the goal for City. John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake and Joao Cancelo formed the defense. Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan started at the base of midfield while Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez started on the wings. Julian Alverez partnered with Erling Haaland up top.
Borussia Dortmund deployed a 4-5-1 setup. Gregor Kobel started under the bar. Niklas Sule, Mats Hummels, Nico Schlotterbeck and Thorgen Hazard played at the back four. Jude Bellingham, Emer Can and Julian Brandt operated in the middle of the park while Karim Adeyami and Giovanni Reina operated on the wings. Youssoufa Moukoko played as the striker
Manchester City winger misses penalty

The German side, Borussia Dortmund had a great start to the match. They got their first chance of the match when Joao Cancelo fouled Adeyemi in a very dangerous position, awarding the home side a free-kick opportunity. Julian Brandt’s effort however did not trouble Ortega.
Dortmund kept on building pressure on the Manchester City defense but the German team’s poor finishing did not help them. Manchester City got their first chance of the game when Nathan Ake met Foden’s delivery from the freekick. But the former Dortmund defender failed to keep his header on target.
The first half ended with a scoreline of 0-0 but Dortmund was clearly the dominant team. Then City made a good start to the second half and put pressure on the Dortmund defense.
City’s great pressure resulted in earned them a golden chance when Riyad Mahrez was fouled in the Box. However, Mahrez’s effort from the spot was saved by Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel.
Soon after that, Kobel was nice again called into action as Argentine forward Julian Alvarez unleashed a brilliant right-footed strike. The Swiss goalkeeper kept Alavarez’s effort out of the target and then gathered the rebound too.
Both teams chased a winner in the last stage of the game but neither of them was successful to carve out any good chances. The match ended with a scoreline of 0-0.
With this draw, Borussia Dortmund have qualified for the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League. They have 8 points from five matches and will remain in the second position.
Meanwhile, Manchester City have secured their place at the top of Group G with eleven points from five matches.
