Spaniard Pep Guardiola wants to bring in La Masia product by end of the season. Manchester City will face a stern competition from European Champions Bayern Munich as well for this young prodigy.
Barcelona might have a real battle on their hands as they want to retain the services of the 21-year-old midfielder. The Catalan club is currently struggling this term with a lack of plans and chemistry under Dutchmen Ronald Koeman.
The Spanish club is going through a transition but alongside they are facing financial trouble as well. As per the latest reports, Barcelona might sell their Brazilian star Coutinho to stabilize the situation. Philippe Coutinho was on loan with Bayern Munich last season and had a great season winning major titles.
According to Fichajes, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are closely monitoring the situation of Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig. His contract about to run out by the end of next season and it’ll be a hard battle for Barca to keep hold of Puig at Camp Nou.
Puig has been a fan favorite within a short span of time with his touches. The Spanish midfielder’s turn and touches in the middle have been highly rated, but things between Ronald Koeman and Puig are not working well.
Manchester City can highly benefit from this signing and Puig can only develop under former Barca manager Pep Guardiola. Puig could also become the next David Silva at City, who left the premier league club after ten years.
Rocky relationship between Puig and Koeman
The relative between the Dutch manager and Puig is not working out well at Barca. According to El Pais, Koeman has accused Barcelona midfielder, Puig, of leaking the information in front of the entire squad.
Koeman told Puig before the season began to look for a new team because he wasn’t going to get the minutes he desired at Barcelona. However, Puig is yet to extend his contract at Camp Nou.
Their conversation was soon made public, much to the Dutch coach’s discontent. “You’re a leak,” he is said to have told Puig in front of the entire dressing room. This has made fans unhappy as well considering the talent Puig possesses in his armory.
Along with Puig, Argentine Lionel Messi and Oscar Mingueza contracts are also to run out by end of this season. Replacing Messi won’t be an easy task for the Catalan club. Paris Saint-Germain and City are in pole position to land the forward.
Long-term replacement for Puig’s compatriot at City
Manchester City had a big loss this summer in their midfield set-up. Spanish star David Silva left City this summer after spending a decade with the English club. Former Valencia midfielder is now currently plying his trade for Real Sociedad in La Liga.
Puig could well turn out to be the long-term replacement for David Sila at Man City if they can win this race. Bayern Munich are also a long-term admirer of this Spanish youngster. Barca management will have a difficult time convincing a player, who has shown good promise.
