Man City shoot up as first club to announce a shirt sleeve sponsorship

The Man City has ventured out to be the first of the Premier League clubs to indulge in a shirt-sleeve sponsorship.

The succeeding season will see the name Nexen Tires, a South Korean firm, being flaunted on the right sleeve of the match-day shirts. Tyre manufacturer Nexen Tires has already been in deals with the club for a couple of years.

This came out as a consequence of Premier League’s decision to free up advertising space on the garment, allowing the clubs to invite sponsorships from next season on it.

The collaboration got announced at Guardiola’s weekly news conference on Friday, where City stars Gabriel Jesus and Ilke Gundogan merged with him along with the club’s women team lady Jill Scott to model the new outfit.

The Citizens chief executive Ferran Soriano spoke on the exulting initiative,  “At Manchester City, we are always striving to take an original approach to our commercial partnerships, creating great relationships and great content for our fans.

“We are especially pleased to be the first Premier League club to secure an Official Sleeve Partner.

“Nexen is an exciting and growing brand and we are extremely happy both to have extended and grown our relationship.”

The shirt will carry the Premier League’s logo on one sleeve and the back.

The initiative may be followed by a crowd of firms flooding in to get their named exhibited on shirt sleeves of various clubs, but two of clubs won’t be able to accept the proposal due to restriction by current sponsors.

The deals of the City’s sponsorships are seldom known by prices as they are never disclosed.
