Manchester United have received a massive blow as their prime defensive target has reached a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid.
It seems things have quickly changed for Manchester United. What started as a dreadful season it seems to be changing since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s take over. Ole has passed his tough test as Manchester United defeat Tottenham by 1-0. With six wins out of six, it seems United could finish in top 4. They have been linked with a lot of players in the winter transfer window. It seems this defensive target has agreed to join Real Madrid.
Manchester United look certain to miss out on Brazilian defender Eder Militao. The defender reportedly reached a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid. United have been linked with the Porto star since the summer. Both Liverpool and Chelsea were also said to be keen on his signature. However, it would appear that a move to the Premier League now looks incredibly unlikely.
Real Madrid will launch a bid to sign Éder Militão from Porto this month. The 20-year-old currently has a £45m release clause in his contract but that rises to £66m in the summer.

SporTV reported that the 21-year-old has reached a verbal agreement to head to the Bernabeu. The report goes on to state that the La Liga giants have agreed to activate Militao’s £44m release clause.
United may now have to look elsewhere to upgrade the weakest part of their team, with continuing doubts over the futures of Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof at Old Trafford. United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated in his press conference for Saturday’s clash with Brighton that any January additions are unlikely. However, he insisted central defence remains an issue, despite the Red Devils winning six games in a row since the Norwegian replaced Jose Mourinho at the helm.
The club may now turn their attentions back to the likes of Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, Inter’s Milan Skriniar, AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli and Leicester’s Harry Maguire.
It’s highly unlike that United may see a signing in January. The likes of Koulibaly and Maguire have expressed no desire to leave their respective club. They may face competition from other clubs to sign a quality defender. If the Red Devils want a quality centre back then they might sign Gary Cahill on loan. However, it remains to be seen who United will sign in January.
