According to Calciomercato, Manchester United have joined Liverpool, Barcelona, and Juventus to the signature of Wolves winger Adama Traore. All these big European clubs are interested in Traore but have been backed off by his transfer value set by Wolves. Wolves recently valued their star winger around £90 million. That is unlikely to meet by any club in the Covid-19 pandemic impact on the club’s economy.
Liverpool were front runners for the Traore in the summer transfer window. They were also willing to offer around £75 million for the Spanish winger but Wolves remained firm on their valuation.
Liverpool eventually signed Traore’s team-mate Diogo Jota for just £35 million. That is proving a great piece of business for Merseyside giants. Jota scored the winning goal against Sheffield United in their latest fixture to guide them back to the top of the table. Liverpool will now only sign Traore if one of their stars forwards leaves Anfield in near future.
Spanish giants Barcelona are also interested to sign back their former academy graduate. The 24-year-old pacey winger was part of their famous La Masia academy until 2015, before joining Aston Villa. But they already have plenty of options on the right side of the attack at Camp Nou. So it makes no sense to spend £90 million on the rotational player.
Serie A champions Juventus were also interested in Traore in the recent transfer window. They tried to sign him on an initial loan transfer with an option to buy next season but were rejected by Wolves.
Adam Traore Performance this season
Wolves manager Nuno Santo is willing to sell Traore but at a very high price. Traore has been down in pecking order this season due to his recent form, failed to score or assist this season.
He started in opening fixtures but Wolves have lost every fixture Traore has started. Santos dropped him in the last three league fixtures, Pedro Neto now preferred ahead of him on right-wing.
Santos also used him as a right-back and right wing-back due to the absence of regular starter Nelson Semedo. But since Semedo’s return at Molyneux Stadium, Traore has yet to start.
Manchester United now identified Jadon Sancho alternative
United tried to sign Sancho in the recently passed transfer window but failed to meet his valuation of £119 million. Borussia Dortmund winger was also keen on the Old Trafford move but the club failed to fulfill his move.
Red Devils also linked with plenty of alternatives for Sancho but failed to attract them to Old Trafford. Gareth Bale joined Tottenham Hotspur, Douglas Costa joined Bayern Munich and Ousmane Dembele decided to stay at Camp Nou.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer is planning to sign a new right-winger in the January transfer window. Traore now emerges as a key target for them and it will be interesting to see if they match his asking price.
Greenwood showed great skills on the right-wing last season but dropped by United due to his off the pitch issues. Greenwood and his teammate Phil Foden broke Covid-19 rules while on international duty and since then he has been punished by the club.
