Manchester United linked striker has agreed to a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ with his current club. It means that Matthew Hoppe can leave his club, Schalke 04, in the summer if a suitable offer is made by any suitors.
Matthew Hoppe is another US talent that has stolen the limelight in the European Leagues. Since his arrival to the German side, he has become one of the most talked-about strikers.
Hoppe started his career at the LA Galaxy academy before being released by the club. He later joined Barca Residency Academy and played there for 2 years before making his move to FC Schalke 04.
Hoppe scored his first goal for the club 2 months after his debut in the form of a hattrick. He became the first US player to score a hattrick in the Bundesliga. Eventually, that was also his club’s first and the only win in the league ending their 30 matches winless streak.
Although his team has been in irreparable form, his performance has been really good for a 20-year-old in a relegation-bound club. Out of the 25 matches played, Schalke has won only 1 match. They have lost 17 and drawn 7 of the remaining. As it remains, they remain at the bottom of the table with only 10 points.
Manchester United interested in the talented striker:
Manchester United have never shied away from showing interest in young talents. It is the pillar on which the great club stands. Moreover, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the interest has increased considerably considering the fact that he is making a team full of youngsters.
United recently extended the contracts of 4 of the academy players. Shola Shoretire, Hannibal Mejbri, Anthony Elanga, and Teden Mengi are the players who earned the reward. Except for Hannibal who was out injured, everyone else got the taste of the first-team appearance and has put an impression on the coach.
The Red Devils had signed 2 youngsters at the start of the season who had shown great potential. Facundo Pellestri is currently on loan in Spain, whereas Amad Diallo made a memorable night at Old Trafford with a brilliant debut goal.
Manchester United are currently enjoying a positive run in every competition. They are 2nd in the Premier League in which has been a good season for Ole. They will be facing AC Milan in the second leg of the Europa League. United will be travelling to San Siro, a place that had some memorable clashes amongst the opponents.
Hoppe an easy target to achieve:
According to reports, there are many clubs that have shown interest in signing the young prospect. Manchester United will have to rival along with their Premier League teams Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool for the striker. Ajax are the only club outside England that has shown the same interest.
Although many clubs have shown interest in the player, none of them have made an official move for him. It might be because of the restrictions he is having playing for a relegation team.
But it has been said that in the gentlemen’s agreement, any club can approach him for a suitable price. And Schalke consider a bid in between £6 million – £10 million to be a decent one.
