There’s been quite a time now that Manchester United are keen to bring in a Sporting Director. In fresh reports, the Red Devils are eyeing Luis Campos of Lille for the role. Things are turning out to brighter things now.
According to many, Campos is on the verge of leaving Lille and United are hoping to get him after waiting several years for him. The Sporting Director joined the Ligue 1 outfit in 2017.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side was able to overturn the 6-1 embarrassment by two consecutive victories. Their win over PSG in midweek brought confidence and hope. But work needs to be done off the pitch.
Manchester United are still fidgeting over their poor transfer business in the summer. They are now willing to rectify this issue by bringing in a sporting director as soon as possible to assist in negotiations.
Manchester United in for a Sporting Director
Manchester United managed to pull out five signings in the past window with four of them coming on the transfer deadline day. However, they were more of panic buying rather than demanded players for the club.
Fans were left frustrated after the club missed out on Jadon Sancho signing. They fail to meet the demands made by Dortmund for him in a lengthy process. After months of speculation, Sancho’s deal was called off.
The unrest from fans are signaling the intent to bring in a Sporting Director. Till now, all transfer negotiations are done by vice-chairman, Ed Woodward. Someone who has got a lot of sticks for the way transfer are managed at the club.
Unlike other teams, Manchester United has been reluctant to bring in a sporting director but they are now considering bringing one. They want to bring someone experienced and Luis Campos is ticking all the boxes.
Campos asks Lille to release him
The change in mindset is believed to be from reports that Campos is leaving Lille. Luis has reportedly told Lille to release him from his contract as he will for a job somewhere new. The news comes as a great surprise.
Campos has done a lot for Lille regarding transfer negotiations. He has helped the club raise £300 million with the sales of growing stars in the team. Lille has profited a lot through Nicolas Pepe and Victor Osimhen’s transfer.
So, his ask for departure is a little weird. Lille are also placed well in the Ligue 1 table in the early season. However, this news is guaranteed to excite Manchester United fans. Considering Campos’s fame in transfer dealings, he could be the right man to be the sporting director at Old Trafford.
Manchester United also desperately need him. It is sure the club won’t go far with Ed Woodward in the thick of negotiations. They will rather want a man who unearthed Kylian Mbappe to bring in Jadon Sancho for them in future.
