United are showing interest in Monaco’s Pietro Pellegri. The Red Devils have been eyeing him for some time now.
Manchester United have once again started their chase behind Pietro Pellegri. United have been tracking the Monaco star since he was 16 years of age.
The 19-year-old has been out with injuries most games since his move to Monaco in 2018. He became one of the most expensive youngster in the world after the £18m signing. However, despite being one of the brightest talents from the Azzurri. Injuries are restricting the forward to just six appearances for Monaco and has only one goal to his name so far.
Despite this, Ole Gunnar is keen to make a move for the youngster. Ole has a lot of attacking options in his arsenal but still wants to strengthen his squad. Rashford, Greenwood, Martial, and Ighalo are all key to Ole’s frontline. But Ighalo may return back to China. Hence Ole is looking into the Italian youngster.
Ole is pursuing Jose Mourinho’s target.
Former United boss Jose Mourinho was also an admirer of the Italian. During Mourinho’s reign, he also did try to sign the youngster. But then he could not make a proper move. Now Ole, the new manager, is also focusing on the 19-year-old.
United have a good relationship with AS Monaco. Hence, they can try to pursue their target. The Italian kid made a deal to Monaco in January 2018 after exiting from Genoa. Despite being a star for his country, he could not perform well due to injury. He was out for most of the games and could not make a mark at Monaco. Yet United are willing to sign the youngster.
Ole is likely to lose Odion Ighalo soon with his loan period ending. So the Norwegian is looking into other options for a replacement. Hence, Pietro is one of the players for United to pursue. But according to ESPN, United is willing to try and extend the loan. But things can go sideways too and hence United are looking for chances of signing the Italian.
There are certain factors United needs to consider.
Pietro Pellegri is one of the most gifted youngsters in the present era. But the star does have some flaws, the main being his fitness.
The 19-year-old has been out of most of Monaco’s games due to injury. Signing such a player will add to United’s burden. The Old Trafford side is already suffering from a number of injuries every now and then. Adding a player with low physical strength can add up to their troubles.
United are signing Pietro to give cover to Anthony Martial. But if the star is out with an injury it will cause discomfort in their lineup. Pietro has miss around 350 days worth of action across the last two seasons. This is a huge factor to consider for Ole Gunnar. Signing for United and missing so many days won’t be something acceptable for the Red Devils.
But if the youngster is able to train and harden himself then things may work out. Ole is desperate to add more strength to his frontline. Now, with Ighalo hinting at an exit Pietro can provide proper cover. If the Italian can manage to be well and fit then United will not regret signing him.
