The mood was quite low within the City dugout following the heartbreaking UEFA Champions League elimination at the hand of Real Madrid. But the Sky Blues had to put this behind them as they still had to fight for the Premier League title.
Manchester City dominated the possession stats as they scored twice in the first half courtesy of Raheem Sterling and Laporte. Hence giving themselves a comfortable buffer at the break.
After the break, Rodri put the game to rest in the 61st minute. To add to this, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling added late goals to help City beat Newcastle United 5-0. The crucial win takes the Sky Blues to 86 points, three clear of Liverpool.

Manchester City News: The victory for Pep Guardiola’s side would certainly not be well received by the Liverpool fans. The Reds’ supporters are desperate to see City lose at least once before the end of the campaign.
Liverpool and Manchester City were neck-to-neck going into gameweek 35. But the Reds suffered a massive setback as they drew 1-1 against Tottenham Hotspur. Owing to this, Jurgen Klopp’s side now trails Manchester City by three points.
More than the victory, Manchester City would be happier scoring five goals against Newcastle United. This has significantly boosted their goal difference and has now made them big favourites to clinch the 2021/22 Premier League title.
With just three games remaining, Manchester City have a goal difference of +68. Whereas Liverpool on the other hand have a goal difference of +64. Hence the Reds are at a massive disadvantage.
Even if Manchester City loses a game, they should still be ahead of the Reds on goal difference. But this would depend on the margin of their defeat and that of Liverpool’s victories in the final three games.
Liverpool are still in the Premier League title race but the results from the weekend were certainly not to their liking. Hence, Pep Guardiola and the City supporters would certainly be happy with the 5-0 win against Newcastle United.
