For The Blue’s of Manchester, the topic of debate over the course of the summer has been the future of their 25 year old defender, Eliaquim Mangala who has been struggling since joining Manchester City in 2014. The French defender had previously found it hard to find a regular starting spot under former boss Pellegrini, but the jury is still out on the Frenchman now that Guardiola has joined the club and it looks as if we will finally get to know if the defender has a future under the new City Manager.
According to a recent report, Serie A giants Napoli have agreed a season long loan deal for the 25 year old centre back, with a potential loan deal being discussed. Mangala failed to make it into any of the match day squads at City so far this season, which also gives more reasons to suggests that he would also not feature in Guardiola’s long-term plans.
Adding insult to injury, the signing of John Stones has further catapulted the once world record defensive singing down the pecking order at the club, with the former Everton man going straight into the starting eleven.
The upcoming return of Vincent Kompany will likely further reduce his game time as well. Coming to a few stats, in each of his two season’s with Manchester City, Mangala had failed to hold down a spot in the first team, failing to start any more than 24 games per Premier League season.
The City defence on the other hand has only grown stronger with the signings of Stones, Otamendi and the return to fitness of Kompany.
