Manchester City has sent the confirmation to rumors regarding the signing of Brazilian teenage full-back Yan Couto from Coritiba.
Brazilian starlet to join City in summer.
The agent of a Brazilian teenager full back confirmed his client will join Manchester City rather than the academy this summer. Yan Couto was one of the scintillating stars during last year’s U-17 World Cup, will sign for Manchester City in July as per the reports in the MEN.
Couto has signed a £10 million contract on March 1st with Manchester City. The move to the Etihad stadium will materialize officially on July 1st.
City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly convinced the young starlet. He assured Couto the ‘first-team plans’ he has for the Brazilian teenager. The city made the signing despite making no first-team appearance for his current club.
The 17-year-old full-back gained Pep Guardiola’s attention during the U17 World Cup with his phenomenal performance. He was good enough and provided two assists in the five appearances for his national side.
Couto was the transfer target of other clubs.
The full right-back also attracted the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich other than Manchester City. However, Guardiola was aware of his potential and also fended off his two former clubs and also Brazil’s Flamengo for Couto’s signature.
Couto went for the trip to the Etihad Stadium to meet Guardiola and look around the facilities. But it was majorly the conversation with the manager that convinced him to join the City among all interested clubs.
Agent Marcelo Robalinho who manages Couto confirmed that his client wanted the opportunity to play for Guardiola. Moreover, the chance of playing in the Champions League had a huge impact on his decision. The agent also says Couto will make the move as from the new campaign.
He said as quoted:
“We chose to close with Manchester City because of the European project, and the prospect of playing with Guardiola. He’s going to stay on the main team.”
While he was ten, Couto’s joined Coritiba’s youth setup in 2012. In 2019, while he was a part of youth categories The Guardians included him in the “Next Generation 2019” as one of the 60 best young talents of the world. He was promoted to the main squad for the 2020 season and was yet to make a first-team appearance.
Guardiola already has first-team plans perfectly in place for the young defender. It would be interesting to see how Yan Couto makes out of his first-team opportunity.
